Each year, outstanding students from across the country enroll in the Judson Mead Geologic Field Station summer courses, and they are recognized with scholarships to help defray the cost of courses. A variety of Field Station funding sources are used to provide these scholarship awards.
Cost & Funding
In the recent past, more than 80% of the students attending our courses have been awarded a scholarship. Scholarship recipients are chosen by a selection committee composed of IU Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences faculty members associated with Field Station courses. This committee decides which source of funding is most appropriate for individual awards. The primary criterion for the awarding of scholarships is academic merit.
A single application is used for all of the IU scholarships. The letter of recommendation that you submit with the course application is used in support of scholarship applications. Scholarship awards are directly applied to the student’s bursar bill.
Other scholarship opportunities
Below is a link to additional, non-IU resources for field camp scholarships. Note that the general timeframe for application deadlines is listed. Take a look at the webpage for each scholarship to find the specific due date for any given year.
Note that membership in some of the relevant societies is required to apply for scholarships. Plan ahead to research these opportunities and their requirements so that you have plenty of time to apply.
