The IUGFS G429 Class of 2013 and the Compton family established an endowment in memory of Katharine E. Compton, an enthusiastic young woman with a profound interest in field geology. Scholarships are awarded to students who share Katharine's passion for geology, scholarship, and citizenship. Many of the recipients’ applications provide evidence of their campus and community involvement, leadership qualities and academic preparedness.
In addition to the endowment earnings, these scholarships have received IU President’s Bicentennial matching funds. The number, amount(s), and recipient(s) of this scholarship are determined by the IUGFS Scholarship Committee.
Recipients of this scholarship are encouraged to provide a letter to the Compton family with an account of their experience at the Field Station.
